Meet coach Ryan
Ryan Akiyama is a NCCP Competition Certified coach with an extensive competitive sporting background from youth to adult. Since 2009 Ryan has coached fastpitch softball for the Cloverdale Minor Softball Association and joined the Canada Futures program in 2021. Ryan’s Cloverdale Fury teams have qualified for and competed in multiple US and Canadian Championships, including a 2023 USA Softball Western National Championship win. His teams have historically competed in college showcase and medal tournaments across North America as well as in Provincial and Western Canadian Championship play with the Cloverdale Fury rep program.
Ryan’s involvement with Canada Futures highlights his dedication to advancing the opportunities for young softball players in Canada from all teams and organizations with a program designed to give athletes exposure to high performance opportunities including the college recruitment process and the chance to experience collegiate-level competition and training. Ryan’s role involves helping identify and develop talented players from softball programs across BC, ensuring they are well-prepared for the rigorous expectations of what lies ahead in their own unique softball journey.
An active figure in the softball community based out of Cloverdale, BC. Ryan also serves as the Vice President of the Cloverdale Minor Softball Association. Ryan’s primary functions since 2018 have been focused on supporting the membership across all ages and skill levels by advancing the organizational capabilities on and off the field of play from player and coach skill development to process and policy design and implementation.
